- His paintings and multi-media installations deal with Afro-Cuban imagery.
- Description of incident
- In 1960 he was expelled from San Alejandro Academy of Art and the
National Art School in Cubanacan, for political reasons. He got a job as
a lithographer where he worked until 1971, when the Congress of Education
and Culture led to official exclusion and censorship of many artists. He
was fired as a result.
- Results of incident
- After contemplating suicide, he left Cuba in 1980, via Mariel to Key
West, Florida. Today he resides in New York City.
